Oh boy, friends! Do I have a good one to share today… The Delaney’s Coon Bluff family photos! A session with 3 little boys, 8 years old and under sounds crazy, but let me tell you this session played out perfectly in every way!
The Delaney Family joined me at the Back-to-School Portrait Day back in July this year as they kicked off another year of homeschooling. (No wonder we got along so well!) So, I had met the mom & two older boys briefly then, but this was our first session together where we got to know each other and the whole family a little better. And it was so much fun!
The Delaney’s have the best kids … so easy & fun! The youngest, had just woken up from a nap and was so sweet and snuggly. And the two older boys loved the chance to explore around the desert! We took their family photos at Coon Bluff in the same spot where I took a few of Allie’s senior photos back in the Spring. A few months ago it looked as though, Allie was sitting in a field of flowers. And now it was such a beautiful Fall desert landscape.
However, the stems and dried flowers from earlier in the year still remained. At one point I looked back from shooting and saw all 3 boys kicking the dried stems and watching all the old petals puff off and fly away! They were completely *annihilating* anything in their path (!!) I’m happy to report the desert was very friendly & playful for our session! (… which is not always the case!)
Everyone was so great too in helping to get the littlest boy to smile for the pictures. Everything from tickling, jokes, and even showing him how it was done! And it did the trick … so many good photos of all 3 of them!

I’m excited to share this episode of Behind the Blog! Come behind the scenes with me to photograph the Delaney’s Coon Bluff Family Photos. Here were the 3 biggest challenges that we had going into the session:
1. Three boys, 8 years old and under … and we only met once quickly before this. It can take a bit of time to get comfortable with each other and find the best way to work together to get great pictures. Just feeling out how up for taking photos everyone was!
2. One of the boys took a tumble just before we started and scrapped his knee
3. And the desert can be hit or miss with how friendly it is …
