I’m so happy to be sharing the Miller’s Riparian Family Photos! This session is a sweet one for me. The Thiel’s are my cousins … I’ve taken their photos many times (including in a beautiful cotton field years ago… you can see those photos HERE) & their extended family photos on Scott’s side. However, this is my first time photographing the Miller Family –Kristin’s side.
Since Scott & Kristin started dating, we’ve known and loved the Miller’s. We’ve gotten to know them closely through spending birthdays, brunches, family BBQs, and Easter & Christmas parties together. Their family is so sweet, and we love spending time with them! Not to mention – Kristin & Barb are amazing cooks!
Unfortunately, this year Barb, Kristin’s mom, was hospitalized with pneumonia & early this year she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer… how heartbreaking! But even just talking with her throughout the session, hearing how she has approached such a defeating diagnosis is so beautiful… she truly trusts God with everything. The whole family is handling it with such grace and really leaning into the Lord’s peace.
I remember one time my mom got off the phone with Barb after talking with her about some hard things that she was walking through, and she said talking with Barb felt like talking with Jesus himself – and after visiting with her during the session, I can agree.
Having dealt with sickness in the past, I know that while I would never wish to walk through it again, it can be one of the most life-giving things… only bringing you closer to Jesus. This is Barb’s second diagnosis with cancer, she had been in remission for 7 years… how hard to now be dealing with it again, this time worse than before.
Barb, and the whole Miller family, are a living testimony that in the midst of the most challenging seasons of life – there is still so much beauty! God is still good, and He can still be trusted. How beautiful is that?!
We took the Miller’s Family photos at the Riparian, squeezing out every last bit of the beautiful Arizona desert that we could this Spring – and it did not disappoint! The Riparian was gorgeous: lots of greeny! Plus, we thought it was perfect for such a big group with everyone from toddlers to grandparents… we had the perfect little picnic table behind us. Every time I turned around to get the next grouping it felt like a big family get together — everyone just enjoying themselves at the park!
There is something so sweet about extended family sessions – so many blessings in one photo! It was an honor to capture this beautiful and hard season for the Miller’s! Be sure to add them to your prayer list… praying for complete healing for Barb and peace for their sweet family in the midst of this challenging season!
